TITLE: The actions of crystallographic groups G on EVC (G)

Abstract

(joint with Ivonne Ortiz) I will sketch the classification of all split three-dimensional crystallographic groups (there are 73 isomorphism types). (Here a crystallographic group G is said to split if it contains its own point group.) This is part of joint work with Ivonne Ortiz, in which we compute the lower algebraic K-theory of all 73 such groups. In this talk, I will concentrate on the classification itself, and on describing the classifying spaces EVC (G) on which the groups G act. It is especially important for our K-theory calculations to have a good understand- ing of the virtually cyclic subgroups of G, and I will describe our techniques for classifying such groups up to conjugacy.
