TITLE: The Wet-lab Biomolecular Computations We Have Done Here And In Leiden

Abstract

We have made exploratory efforts to find wet-lab methods for 'writing' on individual molecules while they are dissolved in water. Each such molecule serves as an individual memory cell of a 'new technology' parallel computer having as its memory unit a drop of fluid. Data is 'written' into fluid memory and 'read' from fluid memory using standard techniques of biotechnology. 'Toy' test instances of three standard (NP-complete) combinatorial algorithmic problems have been completed in S. Gal's lab in Binghamton and in H. Spaink's lab in Leiden. These solutions will be explained using gel photos that confirm the solutions. This talk is introductory and requires no prior understanding of either molecular biology or combinatorics.
