TITLE: Quadratic forms and finite group schemes

Abstract

The talk will be about a conjecture of Kitaoka on finite subgroups of general linear groups over rings of integers in number fields and its rather surprising relation to classification of finite flat group schemes over the integers. Despite all the words in the previous sentence the talk should be accessible to non-experts with only minimal background in algebra. I will explain the definitions of all objects involved and concentrate on the history, statement and recent results on the conjecture without going into any technical details.
