Five Days of Five Speakers in (Roughly) Fifty Minutes

Abstract for the Combinatorics Seminar
2007 March 6

Montreal's Centre de Recherche Mathématiques hosted a five day school on Statistical Mechanics and Combinatorics from February 12-16 in Val Morin, Québec, and I was lucky enough to take part. Five excellent mathematicians gave presentations: Xavier Viennot talked on enumeration and ordinary generating functions, Gilbert Labelle talked on species and exponential generating functions, Mireille Bousquet-Mélou talked on probabilistic combinatorics, Tony Guttman talked on statistical mechanics, and Alan Sokal talked on the multivariate Tutte polynomial. I will do my best to give a taste of each subject in the hope that you will be inspired to Learn Even MoreTM!
