Shifted Complexes

Abstract for the Combinatorics and Number Theory Seminar
2003 March 28 (Friday)

Shifted complexes are a type of abstract simplicial complex. In this talk I will look at their combinatorial properties. I will present characterizations for this class and various sub-classes. I will also establish connections between shifted complexes and totally symmetric plane partitions, standard Young tableaux, linear extensions of posets, and independence complexes of matroids.
